How to Book Your Cybercab Ride in the Robotaxi App

Booking a Cybercab takes just a few taps in the Robotaxi app. You enter your destination, review your estimated fare and wait time, and confirm — Cybercab handles everything else. This page walks you through the full booking flow, explains how dynamic pricing works, and covers what to do if your plans change mid-trip.

Booking Flow #

Open the Robotaxi App #

Launch the Robotaxi app on your iOS or Android device and sign in with your Tesla Account. Make sure your device location is enabled so the app can verify you’re within the current service area.

Enter Your Destination #

Tap the destination search bar and type your drop-off address or point of interest. The app displays the active service area on the map — your destination must fall within this boundary to proceed.Cybercab is currently available in Austin, TX. Check the app for the latest service area boundaries and operating hours, as coverage expands over time.

Review Fare and Wait Time #

After entering your destination, the app shows your estimated fare and estimated wait time before you confirm. Review both carefully — the fare you see is the price you pay, based on current demand and conditions.

Cybercab uses dynamic pricing: your fare is calculated from a base rate, any applicable wait-time charges, and real-time demand. In Austin, fares average around **2.93permile∗∗—forexample,a0.6−miletriprunsapproximately2.93permile∗∗—forexample,a0.6−miletriprunsapproximately4.73, while a 6.2-mile trip runs approximately $11.44. As more Cybercabs join the fleet, wait times and prices are expected to decrease over time.

Confirm Your Ride #

Tap Confirm Ride to request your Cybercab. The app sends you a notification that your vehicle is on its way and displays a live map with your Cybercab’s location and updated ETA.

Head to Your Pickup Location #

Make your way to the pickup point shown in the app. Keep an eye on the live map so you can time your arrival. The Cybercab’s front lightbar will change to the color assigned to your ride — verify this color in the app and confirm the license plate matches before boarding.

Your Cybercab waits 7 minutes at the pickup location. If you haven’t arrived and boarded within that window, the ride may be automatically cancelled. Head to pickup promptly after confirming.

Service Area and Availability #

Cybercab service is currently available in Austin, TX. The Robotaxi app always reflects the live service boundary — destinations outside the active area won’t be bookable. Check the app for current operating hours, as service may not be available 24/7 during the early rollout period.

The service area and available hours will expand as the Cybercab fleet grows. Check the app regularly for updates to coverage in your city.

Ordering for Yourself Only #

You can only book a Cybercab for yourself. The Robotaxi app requires the ride requester’s phone to be present at pickup — the vehicle’s door opens automatically when it detects your device. You cannot order a ride on behalf of another person.

Changing Your Destination Mid-Ride #

Plans change — and that’s fine. You can update your drop-off point at any time during your trip directly in the Robotaxi app:

Tap your current destination at the top of the app screen. Tap Edit. Enter your new destination. Confirm the updated fare and route.

The Cybercab’s navigation updates immediately. Note that changing your destination may affect your fare.

Understanding Your Fare #

What determines my fare? #

Your fare is calculated from three components:

Base rate — a fixed starting charge for your ride Distance charge — based on the miles traveled to your destination Demand pricing — a variable multiplier that reflects real-time demand in your area

The total estimated fare is always shown in the app before you confirm, so there are no surprises.

Will prices go down over time? #

Yes. As Tesla deploys more Cybercabs across the service area, increased supply reduces both wait times and fares. The current pricing reflects the early-fleet rollout period in Austin.

Can I tip my Cybercab? #

Cybercab is a fully autonomous, driverless vehicle — there is no human driver to tip. Your fare covers the full cost of the ride.

After You Confirm #

Once your ride is confirmed, the Robotaxi app gives you:

Live vehicle tracking — watch your Cybercab approach on the map in real time License plate and ride color — verify these at pickup to make sure you’re boarding the right vehicle Estimated wait time — continuously updated as your vehicle navigates to you Notification alerts — get notified when your Cybercab is nearly at the pickup point

Save time by setting up your passenger profile before your first ride. Your preferred seat position and climate settings apply automatically when the trip begins — no adjustments needed once you’re inside.
